Background

INCI, which stands for International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient, is the systematic name used internationally to identify cosmetic ingredients. Originally developed for ingredient labelling, INCI names serve many purposes, from allergen identification to meeting regulatory standards. INCI names are assigned through an official application process, typically submitted by ingredient suppliers via an electronic system. Upon review by the International Nomenclature Committee (INC), approved names are published in the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook and the wINCI online database. While INCI names issued by the PCPC are widely accepted in major markets, countries such as Japan require additional local naming registration for compliant labeling. In Japan, cosmetic products must be labeled with the Japanese INCI names for their ingredients. Companies must apply through the Japan Cosmetic Industry Association (JCIA) to register and obtain the Japanese INCI names. This webinar will provide a practical overview of how to navigate these application processes. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the steps and dossiers required to obtain an INCI name via PCPC, and register Japanese INCI names through JCIA.
