Food Importation Compliance Procedure

According to Food Safety Law, imported foods shall comply with China’s national food safety standards. As required by AQSIQ, they shall pass inspection by the exit-entry inspection and quarantine agencies (CIQ) and obtain inspection certificates.

Penalties

According to Food Safety Law, if the imported food is found not comply with the national food safety standards or there is evidence that such imported food may endanger human health, the importer shall immediately stop trading and recall products. A fine of between RMB 50,000 and RMB 100,000 shall also be imposed, in cases where the total value of illegal food products and/or food additives involved is less than RMB 10,000; otherwise, the fine shall be up to twenty times—but not less than ten times—of the total value of illegal food products and/or food additives involved.
