China Suspends Exports of 10 Solid Waste Suppliers

China AQSIQ to disqualify ten offshore suppliers from exporting solid waste as raw materials into China

1 February 2012

China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) issued on 13 January an announcement to disqualify ten offshore suppliers from exporting solid waste as raw materials into China on the ground that these companies have violated the Chinese terms of solid waste import legislation.

The authority reported that in its 2011 on-site inspections targeted at non-Chinese suppliers from regions of Canada, France and US, etc., ten companies were found supplying inconsistent solid waste materials from the ones registered with the AQSIQ. The authority therefore made the decision to suspend their registration licenses since the publishing date of the announcement, according to the laws of import and export products inspection (article 53), solid waste import management (article 8 and 47) and solid waste import registration (article 24).

Listed companies are ordered to stop their exporting activities but can still submit appeals or self-correction proposals to the AQSIQ within 60 days following the release of the announcement. Companies that fail to submit appeals or self-correction proposals by the due deadline will be formally disqualified of their import registration license.
