China: Info Sharing System on Solid Waste Imports

China establishes information sharing mechanism on management and enforcement of solid waste imports across the nation

1 February 2012

Three Chinese Ministries has lately announced to share information on the management and enforcement of solid waste imports across the nation, states a joint ministerial notice on 19 January from Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) and General Administration of Customs (GAC).

This information sharing mechanism has been established to allow competent authorities concerned at both national and each local level a prompt and mutual comprehend of the importing information of solid wastes that are prohibited in China or not in compliance with relevant Chinese standards, of which the import permit license is transferred or that are suspected of illegal cross-border transference. It is suggested that China has been ready to take more stringent measures to crack down on illegal solid waste imports.
